Therapeutic Lens

Neurodiversity-Affirming Counselling

Trauma Informed

I primarily work one on one with clients to achieve their goals and live life authentically

I predominately work with teens and adults but will work with preteens if I am the right fit

I practice from a person-centered lens, choosing therapeutic approaches based on the goals and preferences of each client

My approach includes elements from acceptance and commitment therapy, narrative therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, and others to inform the therapeutic process

I support neurodivergent folks as they navigate social relationships, burnout, stress, and anxiety

What does this mean?
I believe that neurodivergent individuals, such as those with autism and ADHD, have different neurotypes (brains) that can impact how they interpret the world

My aim is to support individuals in achieving their goals, and modify my therapeutic approach to align with their strengths rather than using therapy as a method to change the individual to fit into a world that was not designed for them

Assessment for autism may be included as a part of therapy

I provide EMDR to help clients process trauma from
the past and present

EMDR stands form Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. Although the name sounds strange, it really is just a framework for which traumatic events can be processed with the help of eye movements or tapping on your body to process thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations connected to a traumatic event

Research Lens

I have a PhD in Neuroscience and am an active researcher at the University of Alberta, where I work at the Autism Research Centre

I have been working for the past decade within autism research, with the goal of understanding how autism may impact the lives of the autistic individual, as well as their families. For a list of my publications, click here (will open a new window)
