Assessment
Assessments are undergirded by a neurodiversity-affirming approach that relies on ongoing interviews with the client, an interview with a family member, and questionnaire data to support findings (as recommended by Hartman et al. 2023).
The aim of an assessment is to gain an increased understanding of one’s social, emotional, and behavioural features and how they may align with the diagnostic criteria for neurodevelopment and mental health conditions.
Included below are the components of an assessment for ADHD or Autism:
-
Consent for Assessment
-
Screen for features of neurodiversity (Autism and ADHD screeners)
-
Questionnaires (Self-Report and Other-Report) that explore features of autism, ADHD, anxiety, depression, as well as other mental health conditions that may be contributing to your experience
-
Background Interview (with Lori)
-
Formal Assessment: (i) ADOS for teens and In-depth interview with adults to assess for Autism or (ii) in-depth interview for teens and adults to assess for ADHD
-
Interview with someone who knows you well (preferably a caregiver, but can also include a partner, other family member, or a friend that knows you quite well)
Psychoeducational Assessments
Lori also does assessments to explore learning challenges and giftedness to identify specific learning needs for teens and post-secondary students, as well as to help support applications for AISH and PDD.
Note: All of my assessments are quite thorough and will include several questionnaires that you will complete to explore your experiences of neurodiversity, as well as wellness screening to rule out (or rule in) other contributing factors to your experience.
All assessments include a report of the results of the assessment, any diagnoses made, as well as recommendations based on the outcome of the assessment.
